About

Amy Gortler first joined the Preschool team as a substitute teacher after her two children graduated from our program. We were thrilled when Amy became a permanent member of our teaching staff and the Kaytana summer camp program as well. Amy has a profound respect and appreciation of the outdoors and has developed a weekly nature club (Teva) program that has enriched the experience of our curious, four year-old explorers. Amy also collaborates with an alumni parent to oversee the Preschool’s garden.

Amy says, “My favorite part of the job is connecting children with nature and watching their curiosity and enthusiasm take over. A daily adventure might include digging up potatoes in the garden, building a fort with tree branches, or tipping over a log to discover salamanders, slugs, earthworms, and centipedes.”

She says, “I enjoy almost any picture book because by noticing details in the illustrations, you can prompt an interactive discussion with young children.”

Amy has a B.A. in English and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. She has completed a course in Child Development and received her MA EEC teacher certification several years ago.
